We all loved Messina, where the city and people looked a bit friendlier than in Naples. We were surprised, though, that no shops opened until 4pm, giving the locals a longer weekend, but precluding the opportunity for visitors to spend lots of money, especially visiting cruise folk. None of us really understand the Italians, as much as we love them.

I wanted to tell these people that cell phones are smaller these days, but they didn’t look like irony was their strong suit.
